Shalyatantra (Surgery) is one of distinct branch of Ayurveda which explains and demonstrates surgical knowledge and procedures that were performed and used since thousands of years ago and are useful even today, in other words Shalya Tantra is a vital branch of Ayurveda the literal meaning of which is removal of an irritating factor from the body (surgery).

Charaka, the best-known physician of Ayurvedic medicine, also recommended for Shalyatantra for the treatment of certain diseases. Susruta, is synonymous with surgery.

The prominent reason about this branch have more popularity compare to other branches of the Ayurved is it could provide fast relief compared to the slower process of recovery from herbs or medicines.
